
Dry Solids (%DS) in sludge cake
The Olpas sludge cake dry solids measurement consists of a single ultrasound transducer and a dataprocessor. The measurement device is capable of measuring sludge cake density in concentrations from 10-40 %DS.
The unique OLPAS measurement technology is used for all versions available: a Dry Solids sensor for inline mounting in a pressured pipe, and a Dry Solids sensor with sample grabber.
A clamp-on sensor is available for usage in specific circumstances where measurement through the pipe is preferred.

Measuring sludge cake moisture content in wastewater treatment plants is a challenging task.
This is due to the fact that sludge cake is often not compacted and is discharged from the dewatering installation with sludge conveyors and screws. Existing inline measurements, such as microwave-based density measurements, often fail to accurately determine sludge density due to the granular nature of sludge cake and the presence of large air pockets.
The Olpas ultrasound technology provides a fouling-resistant measurement of the sludge dry solids content, independent of sludge type or morphology.
