TSS or %DS in 'challenging environments': Iron Sludge

We are often asked: "How do Olpas sensors actually make a real difference ?"

Well: what is standing apart our sensors, is often the environment (or medium) we measure in. Other often call them "Challenging environments". Our Olpas sensors call these "Home".

What optical sensors call 'challenging environments', Olpas sensors call 'home'

This video shows one of our sensors in action, installed in a silo measuring iron sludge - a byproduct of drinking water production. Measuring the concentration of iron sludge online is no easy task.

This environment is where...

optical sensors FAIL – the sludge is too thick and opaque. Even wipers or pressured air can not keep the head of these sensors clean.

microwave sensors FAIL since the iron content causes interference.

Olpas sensors succeed - reliable in the toughest sludge! And without error-prone wipers.

After two months without maintenance, this sensor is still working smoothly, despite being coated in thick sludge – and all that with no noticeable drift! 💪

Other 'challenging environment' where Olpas sensors make an important difference:

  • Measuring TSS in Sewers

  • Remotely measuring Sediment Concentration in open rivers, with extensive (once per saison) maintenance intervals

  • Measuring TSS in dewatering centrate / filtrate (even with air bubbles and residual PE)

  • Measuring residual PE (Polyelectrolytes) in centrate

  • Measuring %DS in Dry Cake of dewatering

  • Measuring high concentration of PE (Polyelectrolytes), and extremely low concentration in effluent of membranes

  • Measuring TSS in influent of WWTPs

  • Measuring MLSS in active sludge
